Help Support HSRA Los Angeles
Our vision is to inspire students to become free thinkers by providing rigorous, culturally relevant, media-infused curriculum in a safe, cooperative learning environment.
HSRA - LOS ANGELES:
High School for Recording Arts – Los Angeles (HSRA-LA) was launched in 2007 at a school previously named Media Arts Academy. In order to be true to its charter, the school was infused with technological tools that allowed students the opportunity to create projects that connected directly to California State Standards. HSRA-LA is working to engage students that are under-served. We believe that creating meaningful connections with our students and challenging them to set high goals for their future helps to create a positive environment for learning.
HSRA - LA GOALS:
- Every student will be known well by at least one member of the HSRA-LA staff.
- Each student will, along with his or her advisor, create a Personal Learning Plan (PLP) that will serve as a guide for his or her high school career.
- We will serve the whole student: mind, body and spirit.
HSRA - LA COMMITMENTS:
Preparing students for their future: HSRA-LA is committed to develop specific plans for each student in order to prepare them for his/her life after graduation.
Maintaining rigor in curriculum: Our students arrive at HSRA-LA with varying ability levels; in order to meet the needs of all of our students, programs must be developed to remediate some students, and courses must be created to meet the needs of students who are advanced.
Employing highly qualified and inspiring educators: HSRA-LA is committed to hiring and retaining educators who have not only content knowledge but also the passion to educate students who are largely overlooked by society.
Technology acquisition and upkeep: Some of the most compelling tools used in education and the real world are technology based; in order to truly prepare students for what awaits them post-graduation, we must have the latest most effective technological tools available to our student body.
Facility development: Our school site is a warehouse that has been retrofitted to meet the needs of our school. We have the opportunity to expand this summer, and construction will need to be done to create an optimally positive and productive learning environment. One of our future goals is to transform the lot adjacent to our school into a community park as we continue our efforts to reach out to our local community.
HOW YOUR SUPPORT HELPS HSRA-LA:
The money we currently receive from the state and federal government is not enough to support us in accomplishing our myriad of interconnected educational goals. We need support from other organizations to:
- empower students to become community leaders
- lower the student to teacher ratio
- reach out to our community
- put gang intervention programs in place
- offer life skills classes
- and so many more services we would like to provide to our students and the local community
HSRA-LA can begin to transform students, but after the students have made positive choices, they need a true community in which they can be a productive member. That is when the cultural shift and greater change can occur. Your organization can be a part of that larger community by both small and large acts of support.
